The Archaeological Site of Dion

Kicking off our all-day Mount Olympus trip is a visit to the archaeological site of Dion. Tourists are welcome to walk around and observe the ancient statues, artifacts and ceramics found on the archaeological site and its museum.

The Crusader Castle of Platamon

This Crusader castle was built between 1204 and 1222 to overlook the valley of Tempe where the main road connects Macedonia with Thessaly and southern Greece. Damian was a very fun and knowledgeable guide! The train ride is long from Athens but it was worth the day trip. You get to see Greece along the way which is so valuable. Once you reach Katerini, each stop with Damian was informative and enjoyable! Dion, lunch with locals, the foothills of Mount Olympus and the beautiful castle were all worthwhile stops. We would recommend to anyone!

The train trip from and to Athens is long but comfortable. Once we met our guide, Jason, we were off on the adventure. Some of the archeological sites are self-guided and you need to move fast to see all the sites at them. We were joined by another for the trip. We all had the same priorities of more time with Mt. Olympus (did see the site of Dion). Once we got into the mythology and history of Greece, we found Jason very engaging and we learned a lot. Mt. Olympus is beautiful and I had no idea that Greece received snow. The waters of Olympus are amazing to see. Loved this trip.
